Take the time to read this article, and you can tell very quickly that the writer is entirely captured by Ronan: her dazzling appearance and charming personality. As one who has also met her, I can agree that she is a uniquely fascinating girl and mature far beyond her years. This article was written several months ago (a fact which can be ascertained through comments the writer makes, as well as the fact that I’ve reported on several clips from this interview previously). I like that the writer picked up on the point that Ronan is not just another child actress, but someone who will likely make her mark while still maintaining her integrity; a trait that I respect her for. There are also interviews with her previous directors about Ronan’s process when acting – apparently not having one!

“Peter Weir, who directed her in The Way Back, said, “She has knowledge beyond any acting course, or anything you can learn through observing.” Neil Jordan agrees, “She doesn’t seem to have a technique. She just gets right to the heart of the issues every time.” Director Wes Anderson cast her for his next film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, without even meeting her…

“I’m not sure she even knows how she does it,” says Macdonald. “That skill, of being able to register emotion and story even on your face, is what makes a good actor truly great.”

Did you also know that Ronan was homesick for Ireland during the filming of ‘The Host’? I remember reporting on it a little, back when they were in the middle of filming, but it’s still sweet to read about the music she listened to and tea she drank to remind herself of home (not to mention crying a little in the privacy of her trailer). We also learn that she aspires to learning film and art history at NYU some day. More power to you, hun! Not all of us get to chase our dreams, so enjoy the heck out of it! 🙂

Bullett interviewed Jake (Ian) about ‘The Host’, ‘Percy Jackson’, and some other unrelated questions. A lot of the information he provides about this film is much the same as we’ve heard before: he talks about the love ‘box’ and his character, as well as retells the story about Max, Saoirse, and him in the truck that Max is driving (not in the film) through the desert and how scared they were. Jake goes into more detail in this interview, though, about the larger themes in the story, which I feel helps draw a wider audience to this film than we saw with ‘Twilight’.

So let’s say that aliens did, in fact, arrive to take over our bodies to try to end human violence. Do you think that would be the best way to solve the world’s problems?
We had two weeks of rehearsal with the cast and Andrew sitting around basically asking that same question. We all went on either side of it. If that happened, this world would be great. It would be perfect. Everyone would be happy. But none of us would be sitting here. Our bodies would be here, but we would be stripped of our souls, which is our essence. And without your essence, you’re dead. I personally don’t think that it would be the best way.

The other part that caught our interest was the knowledge that Jake tried out for the character of Edward, in Meyer’s previous series, ‘Twilight’.

You auditioned for the role of Edward in Twilight, but you’ve said you basically flubbed it. What happened?
Listen, everyone auditioned for that. If you were in town, you went out for it. I viewed it very literally. I thought to myself, This guy is a hundred and something years old. What’s he doing? I decided to play it like that. Maybe I knew it wouldn’t work, but I found it interesting. I think that’s all we as actors are trying to do: find ways of doing things that you find interesting. Ultimately it paid off because I did the same thing for The Host, and that’s what it was meant to be. I was meant to work with Stephenie, and we were meant to be a part of each other’s lives. It just wasn’t supposed to happen till later.

Jake Abel, destined to work with Stephenie Meyer? That’s a neat thought!

Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Abel were on a morning show on VH1.  The interviewer did not seem to grasp the elements of the film really well, but I am posting this because they play a game called “He Says, She Says” towards the end.  It is pretty hysterical.  Jump to 5:38 on the video to see the game.

Will ‘Twilight’ fans get on board for sci-fi story? And does that even matter?

USA Today Graphic

USA Today wrote up a lengthy article about the expectations of The Host and about Stephenie Meyer.  The great graphic made for the article is above.  Read the full article here.  Below are some excerpts:

“Science fiction is actually more me and my reading experience,” she says. “I never really read any vampire books before I wrote Twilight, that was the weird thing. Aliens are actually right up my alley.”

Twilight was this amazing phenomenon. As a result, anything that Meyer’s name is attached to, there are these automatic big expectations,” says Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. “She has shown what she can do. But I don’t know if The Host has the same momentum.”

Twilight was its own machine. It didn’t need me on the front lines. It was doing fine,” Meyer says. “This (movie) feels like it needs me a little bit more. You want to go out and make it work.”

Meyer says she is not worried about meeting box-office goals. “I don’t have expectations. It’s not my job to worry about that,” she says. As for any movie sequel, there are no official plans, and Meyer calmly says it’s out of her hands.

“It’s all up to how things go down. I don’t have a number,” she says. “There might be a number. But nobody has told me.”

I randomly got emailed and called by Bryan Alexander who wrote the article.  Here is the portion where I am quoted.  Twilight Moms is quoted also.

Sarah Ksiazek of TheHostMovieNews.com says she is noticing mixed success in the full court press.

“You have this love story and Stephenie Meyer,” she says. “But It’s kind of weird — it’s not the rabid fandom that’s all-consuming like Twilight. I don’t know how it’s going to transfer over. But we’ll see when it opens.”
